5 Free Student Leadership Trainings:

Plugged In vs. Running on Empty

Prop: phone charger (or small charging cable) / optional power bank
Goal: Follow Jesus first, then lead from overflow

1) Icebreaker (1–2 min)

  • “Lowest your phone battery has ever been before you panicked?”

2) Big Idea (30 sec)

  • “Connection first. Fruit second. Abide first. Influence second.”

3) Teach (3–4 min)

  • Leading unplugged = burnout, fake energy, people-pleasing, irritation
  • Jesus’ pattern: be with the Father, then minister

4) Scripture (read + 30 sec)

  • John 15:4–5 (abide)
  • Optional: Mark 1:35 / Luke 10:38–42

5) Discussion (2 min)

  • Where do you feel “low battery” spiritually?
  • What are signs you’re running on empty?

6) Practice (2–3 min)

  • Daily 10-2-1: 10 min Word/prayer, 2 min quiet, 1 encouragement
  • Sunday 3-Min Plug-In: gratitude → surrender → intercession

7) Prop Moment (30 sec)

  • Hold charger: “This doesn’t make you impressive. It makes you connected.”

8) Challenge (30 sec)

  • “No serving without plugging in this week.”

9) Pray (1 min)

  • Ask Jesus for connection, overflow, and joy in serving

Drivers vs. Passengers

Prop: car key / keychain
Goal: Ownership, responsibility, solution mindset

1) Icebreaker

  • “If you could own any car, what would it be?”

2) Big Idea

  • Passengers complain/blame. Drivers take responsibility and solve.

3) Teach

  • When life goes bad, passengers look for someone to blame
  • Drivers ask: “What can I do? What’s the next step?”

4) Scripture

  • 1 Corinthians 13:11 (maturity)
  • Optional: Romans 12:4–5 (one body / responsibility)

5) Discussion

  • Where do you act like a passenger?
  • Where is God asking you to take the wheel?

6) Application (ministry-specific)

  • Identify “driver problems” leaders can solve: lonely students, stale worship, friends not coming, first-time guests
  • “If you see it, you own it” + bring 1 solution idea

7) Prop Moment

  • Hand keys: “You’re committing to be a driver. No more ‘someone should…’”

8) Challenge

  • Find 1 problem this week and bring 1 solution (not just a complaint)

9) Pray

  • For courage, ownership, and love for the body

Thermostat vs. Thermometer

Prop: mini thermometer keychain OR a “temperature dial” card/token
Goal: Culture setters, not vibe observers

1) Icebreaker

  • “If you could control one thing about your school day, what would it be?”

2) Big Idea

  • Thermometer reports the room. Thermostat sets the room.

3) Teach

  • Thermometer: “This is awkward/boring/dead.”
  • Thermostat: “I’m bringing faith, warmth, courage, welcome.”

4) Scripture

  • Philippians 2:14–15 (no grumbling; shine)
  • Optional: Matthew 5:14–16 (light)

5) Discussion

  • Where do you reflect the room most?
  • What temperature should we set every Sunday?

6) Application

  • Choose 3 “temps” for your ministry: Welcomed / Expectant / Engaged
  • Give “temperature-setting actions”: greet first, include someone, engage in worship, start encouragement

7) Prop Moment

  • Show thermometer then dial: “Leaders set the temperature.”

8) Challenge

  • This week at school: encourage 3, invite 1, pray for 1

9) Pray

  • For joy, boldness, and presence in every room

Mirrors vs. Windows

Prop: pocket mirror (small compact)
Goal: Live outward—example, service, humility

1) Icebreaker

  • “If someone watched your life for 24 hours, what would they learn matters most?”

2) Big Idea

  • Mirror turns everything inward. Window turns you outward.

3) Teach

  • Mirror mode: comparison, drama, self-focus
  • Window mode: service, awareness, compassion, leadership

4) Scripture

  • 1 Timothy 4:12 (set an example)
  • Optional: Galatians 6:2 (bear burdens)

5) Discussion

  • Where do you get stuck in mirror mode?
  • Who around you needs a window leader?

6) Application

  • Filter before you speak/post: true? kind? helpful? builds faith?
  • Connect to roles: greeting/hosting/worship = window leadership

7) Prop Moment

  • Look in mirror 3 seconds → flip it down → look outward: “Stop starring at yourself.”

8) Challenge

  • Do 1 unseen act of service this week (tell nobody)

9) Pray

  • For humility and eyes to see people

Seeds vs. Trees

Prop: seed packet OR seeds in a small baggie + “My Tree/My Seed” card
Goal: Value habits; small daily choices become a future life

1) Icebreaker

  • “If you could instantly be great at one thing, what would it be?”

2) Big Idea

  • Everybody wants a tree (results). Few people plant seeds (habits).

3) Teach

  • Seeds are small + boring + daily
  • But the harvest is real (good or bad)

4) Scripture

  • Galatians 6:7–9 (sow/reap; don’t grow weary)
  • Optional: Luke 16:10 (faithful with little)

5) Discussion

  • What “tree” do you want in your life?
  • What seed habits will grow it? What seeds are harming you?

6) Application

  • Board: TREE I WANT → SEEDS I PLANT
  • Starter habit: 5-5-5 daily (5 Bible / 5 prayer / 5 encouragement or serve)

7) Prop Moment

  • Hand seed: “Your future is in your hand—what you plant daily, you live eventually.”

8) Challenge

  • 14-day habit streak (miss a day → don’t quit, replant tomorrow)

9) Pray

  • For consistency, hunger for God, and patience in growth
