How a disconnected moment sparked a youth ministry revolution

From Disconnection to Digital Discipleship

I, Jared Pickrell, was a youth pastor, and Cameron Krouch was one of the students in my youth group. Cameron was super involved at school and theatre (which is probably why he got into Stanford). The big problem I noticed was that I had very little visibility into Cameron’s and many other students’ faith journeys because they were gone a lot—finals, plays, rehearsals, sports, and everything in between.

When I did see Cameron, it was a lot of catching up, but I didn’t do a great job encouraging him uniquely in his faith. One of the reasons? I had no idea how it was all going. I had no insight into his spiritual habits, conversations, community, or struggles.
